Backup your display pictures, emoticons, winks and everything else

There has always been a problem to backing up your custom content on Messenger. It is stored locally on your computer, but in often hidden directories, masked by data files. Sometimes you need to backup up your settings and custom content if you changing PC or formatting your current. Windows Live Messenger Emoticons Backup allows you to do this.

The program will backup emoticons, winks, backgrounds, dynamic backgrounds and display pictures and allow you to restore them at a later date. Essentially this will save you a lot of time and hassle, and I guess I'm posting about this to index it for search engines, so anyone caught up in this situation has a solution.

this is not too bad, but you should also take a look at Messenger Backup Wizard, which works a bit neater when backing up my emoticons. you can take a look at it here, not that i had any issues with this one.

Well I'm using Windows Vista, which had no issues at all. It created a separate folder, organising all my data. It seems like a simple polished program.

Does anyone else experience any issues?

Hey absorbation,

I just downloaded the program and tested it, entering a backup folder location and my Windows Live ID, but when I clicked on "Backup", all I got was 2 Message Boxes, the first stating I should wait some seconds, and the second stating "Error: No Data to Copy, check that you type your username correctly.". But in fact, my Windows Live ID *was* correct, and I do have Custom Emoticons in my account. After that, I tried the 2nd account that I am using in Messenger, also with Emoticons, but I only got the same error message, which was quite unsatisfying.

Is the program only suitable for a specific version of Windows Live Messenger or a specific version of Windows?
